Oral solids represent well over 70% of marketed pharmaceutical dosage forms. However, the design of oral drug delivery systems can be challenging because successful drug delivery via the oral route can be hindered by factors such as poor solubility and permeability, which result in inadequate bioavailability to achieve the intended therapeutic outcomes. Clearly, innovative approaches are needed to address the challenges associated with pharmaceutical formulation and processing.
