Dr. Hiew received the Ebert Prize for her paper titled "Improving Dissolution Performance and Drug Loading of Amorphous Dispersions through a Hierarchical Particle Approach". Established in 1873 and awarded by the American Pharmacists Association Academic of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Research, the Ebert Prize is the oldest pharmacy award in the United States. This award recognizes the author of the best research article containing original investigation of a medicinal substance published in the Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences during the prior year.
As noted by the Ebert Prize selection committee, the research "elevates our understanding of the relationship between surface composition and performance of co-precipitated amorphous dispersion particles necessary to improve drug dissolution and bioavailability. The research gives formulators another tool to address the challenges presented by poorly soluble drugs, which comprises a significant portion of the drug development pipeline."
